Microneedling in Houston, TX

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a facial treatment that uses tiny needles to perforate the surface of your skin to trigger natural healing and regeneration. Once the healing processes have been stimulated, your collagen production is boosted, and your facial skin becomes firmer and more supple. This process reduces the appearance of scars, lines, and wrinkles, and creates more youthful-looking skin. HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves the use of a device that is applied to the surface of your skin. As the device is applied to your skin, tiny needles on the head of the device gently cause micro-injuries. This micro-damage causes your natural healing abilities to kick into gear and increase production of collagen in the skin to naturally enhance and repair.

The regenerative healing factors sent by your body to the area trigger new growth and aid in cell turnover, which smooths out existing lines and wrinkles, enhances the firmness and elasticity of your skin, and reduces the appearance of acne scars.

WHAT SKIN ISSUES IS MICRONEEDLING USED TO TREAT?

WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?

Recovery is quite rapid when microneedling is performed by our team of skincare experts in Clear Lake, TX. Any anesthetics used are topical and wear off quickly after treatment. Your skin may appear red or almost sunburned for one to two days following treatment. During this time there may be some very minor bleeding or light bruising. You will be given aftercare instructions to follow during this time to help with the healing process. As your skin heals you will begin to see visible results, with your skin looking healthier, stronger, and more youthful in the weeks ahead.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

A Microneedling device has fine needles that glide across the skin, creating tiny punctures that stimulate new collagen production. Microneedling can be used anywhere in the body to improve the appearance of damaged or aging skin, including the face, neck, and chest.

HOW LONG DOES A MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT TAKE?

Treatments are minimally invasive and take less than 30 minutes.

During a simple blood draw, growth factors are collected and prepared into a plasma-like a serum. Your own growth factors increase collagen and decreases healing time. The plasma can be injected (aka” Vampire Lift”) or topically applied during the microneedling process to enhance the microneedling procedure.

HOW MANY MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Multiple treatments are typically needed to obtain desired results, about 1 month apart.

WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS OF MY MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?

You may be surprised to hear that you’ll notice a difference in your skin immediately after your microneedling treatment. This is because the tiny wounds that are created in the deepest layers of your skin are promptly healed by the body. When we finish your procedure and you look at yourself in the mirror, you’ll notice some redness or a radiant glow. You may develop pinpoint scabs within about 24 hours of receiving microneedling, but these tend to slough off pretty quickly.

While your skin may look smoother, softer, and more radiant after your microneedling session, you’ll enjoy progressive improvements as the weeks pass. It takes the body about four to six weeks to lay down new collagen proteins in the matrix that supports the skin. Knowing this, you may want to schedule a touch-up around that time to continue robust collagen production for even better results.

DO I NEED TO AVOID ANYTHING AFTER MICRONEEDLING?

After your microneedling treatment, your skin may be a bit more sensitive than usual. To prevent unnecessary irritation, your provider may suggest that you avoid skincare products with active acidic ingredients. Examples include cleansers or serums with alpha-hydroxy acids or retinol. You only need to avoid these products for two to three days. In addition to preventing irritation, you want to decrease your sun exposure for about three days after your treatment. To avoid inflammation from sun exposure, apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen every four to six hours that you’re outdoors. Ultimately, sunscreen use is a great habit to get into for the best long-term outcome from microneedling.

CAN’T I JUST DIY MICRONEEDLING AT HOME?

If you’ve explored ways to support aging skin at home, you may have come across sites that promote at-home microneedling. The appropriate term is dermal rolling. The device that’s used to dermal roll the skin is entirely different than the tool we use in the clinical setting. Here, our microneedling treatments “stamp” the tiny needles into the deeper layers of the skin. A dermal roller, as it sounds, rolls a needle-clad drum over the skin. While the needles on a dermal roller are shorter and don’t reach the deepest layers of dermal tissue, they’re long enough to present a risk. Rolling needles over the skin, the primary risk is that, rather than creating tiny channels, you’re creating tiny tears in the upper layers of the skin. This technique doesn’t achieve results that come close to clinical microneedling. Furthermore, it carries a risk of scarring. For these reasons, dermal rolling at home is not advised.

HOW OFTEN CAN I GET MICRONEEDLING?

If your goal is to achieve more noticeable tissue rejuvenation, we may recommend that you visit us for a short series of treatments. As you know, your body doesn’t naturally make sufficient amounts of collagen to sustain youthful-looking skin. That’s why you’re visiting us for microneedling to begin with! Once you’ve completed your recommended series of sessions, you might want to schedule a touch-up to occur four to six months later. With one to two microneedling treatments a year, it’s reasonable to expect to maintain enjoyable effects for a prolonged period.
